De Heeren van Ruysdael – Corona Invinicible Grandes XO

Filed under Cigar Reviews {no comments}

I have been neglecting my blog a little over the last few weeks, ive been busy working on the website amongst other things.

With the weather getting better, i had my first BBQ last weekend. After the masses of meat and bread i had crammed into my feeding/breating hole, it was cigar time. Now back when i started working at Gauntley 6 years ago i came across a box of Heeren van Ruysdael cigars. The box must have had some age to it the black ink was fading away on the box and 10% of the cigars had become dust in the box. After a little TLC i managed to bring some life back into these Panatella sized Dutch cigars. I ended up buying the last 2 and they have been sat in Humidor ever since. So with a full stomach and a big glass of port i finally gave one of these a whirl

The Rufmans Cigar Guide has this to say on the De Heeren van Ruysdael – Corona Invinisible Grandes XO.

Machine Made. Superior Quality. Tobaccos from Sumatra, Cuba & Brazil.. Sumatran Deli-sand wrappers. One of the Best Dry Cigar Marques. Still made to traditional Dutch standards using tobacco from former Dutch plantations. The Corona Invinicible Grandes XO has a 5/5 rating and the following blurb “Good intergrated flavours and aroma. Elegant cigar to follow a meal”

These cigars have been sat in the bottom coroner of my main humidor and the strong cedar aroma with a little tobacco in the back ground. On lighting the cedar from the Humidor was very prominent but soon took a back seat as the rich nutty flavours came through. The cigar burnt evenly and the draw was as a easy as a Sunday Morning.

As the cigar progressed a vast array of flavours made there way through, coffee hints followed by mixture of aromatic honey, earthy and citrus came through in the final 1/2. By the end some peppery hints become apparent but never overpowering the Nutty flavours.

All in i just wish these cigars where still on the market. I can imagine these cigars in there “Youth” would still be one of the best European premium cigars available. Even the de olifant’s i have tried don’t come close to these. If you ever see these cigars anywhere i suggest you buy the lot. Its definitely worth it, even if you do end up over drawn.
