CAO Brazilia – Piranha

Filed under Cigar Reviews {no comments}

These cigars have now been discontinued in the UK. I managed to get my grubby little mitts on about 10 a good 6 months ago. Being a big fan of all the Maduro’s CAO produce I have been saving these for a rainy day…….So on a hot sunny Summer evening I set off with one wedged between my lips on a my daily 30 min walk home.

Rolled in : Nicaragua
Wrapper : Brazilian
Binder : Nicaraguan
Filler : Nicaraguan
Size: 4 1/2″ x 46

To look at and feel, the Brazilias are out of this world. The wrapper is, like many CAO Mauro’s is Black “As The Ace Spaces”. The cigar had a slight hint of the dark Maduro wrapper, (but being at the bottom of my humidor) with a strong cedar aroma. The cut revealed a good packing of lighter filler and the pre light draw was perfect. So I took a flame to (insert evil laugh) the years of Fermentation and hundred of caring hands taken to produce this cigar. Initially  the cigar had a lovely smooth smoke, with a distinct coffee flavour. Leaving a earthy/leathery after taste. The burn in this first 1/3 went a bit cock eyed on me.

By the 2/3 the burn sorted it self back out and the Piranhas really started to live upto it name. More balls is the best way I can describe it. One minute its nice and smooth/mellow then BAM!! Spice, a little sweetness and a strong Liquorice flavours are attacking my tongue like a school of piranha round a floating corpse. The middle of this cigar is when it comes to life, the flavours grown and grow, developing woody/nutty/earthy tones. The increase in body and flavour didn’t stop there either; the final third saw the full power of this blend come to life. Lots of spice mixed with a sharp espresso flavours. A long earthy finish

All in the CAO Brazilia, might only have a Brazilian wrapper around the rich & strong Nicaraguan body. A great full flavoured smoke, recommended with a coffee on a sunny afternoon or as a quick smoke out side a restaurant. The Italias we now have over here are a similar smoke but there not the Brazilia. If you find any in a tobacconist anywhere I would really suggest you buy the lot.
