Rattrays – Bagpipers Dream

Filed under Pipe Tobacco Reviews {one comment}

Now i got this baccy in on a whim, with a name like BAGPIPERS DREAM, how could i not. When it came in i opened the tin and oh boy did it smell good. A rich plum aroma, on a blend of golden broken flake and black Cavendish. This tobacco is one of the best looking i have ever seen, which i why i was an idiot not to get any in our first batch. It all sold within 2-3 days and i kept forgetting to grab at least 1 bowl full. The guys over at TobaccoReviews.org have either raved about it or hated it.

Blended in : Denmark
Contains : Virginia (Flake, Curly, Twist, Golden, Red, Dark) & Black Cavendish
Cased/Top : Lightly Cased with Cognac
Pipe : Stanwell De Lux 191

The tobacco had been dried out a little, i have been neglecting my pipes recently. The filling was easy, i rubbed the flakes & twists out a little. With a 2 layer fill, topped with some of the finer golden strands on top. I am using my little Stanwell for my non goopy aromatics, the short body isnt ideal but its a great smoke. The tobacco got going well and oh boy this tastes as good as it smells. A strong and sweet tobacco flavour, all coming from the variety of the Virginia. The smoke was thick and cool, thanks to the Cavendish. With some slow sips i could really taste the alcohol, others mentioned this too. That almost vegetable smell you get from pure alcohol could be tasted in there. The plum aroma i could smell was there but with the rich tobacco flavours it took on a new direction.The tobacco burnt easily and a little fast, probably due to the added dryness. Kim commented on the room note, as a nice sweet smell.

Wow i almost want to become a Bagpiper, sometimes whims pay off. The tobacco is a strong aromatic, the flavours are rich and sweet. No tongue bite and easy burning was a bonus, i didnt have to chuff away to keep it going at all. The Virginia’s provided enough nicotine to satisfy, even with the quick burn. The added cognac flavours smell great but dont taste as good, luckily the Virginia’s are tasty enough. The flavours do go a little sour towards the end, but again the Virginia’s keep it pleasing. Would smoke again and suggest you try it! If your a Aromatic smoker that is.

Im going to mix a little (1 in 5) more flavoured Black Cavendish, dryer maybe Black Spice (Cinnamon & Nutmeg) or Kendal Exclusiv Black Cherry. Will review that blend soon, keep your eyes pealed.

    This is the dogs doodars – I am an Aro fan and I can’t recommend it enough, heady stuff, you feel like you have had a tipple, beautiful aroma and amazing taste, some aro’s don’t taste as well as they smell, this does, and it delivers.
    Miss it – miss out, I need another tin soon…..yum!
