Arturo Fuente – Petit Corona

Filed under Cigar Reviews {no comments}

Sunday was supposed to be a great day. Hot, BBQ and watching England erm…hammer Germany again. All topped off with a cigar to finish the day off afterwards. It all was all going to plan…..The sun was shining, my BBQ was loaded up ready for a loose flying match, i had been smoking Rattrays Bagpipers Dream in the morning, my family had arrived and ten the football began. Well i dont need to mention that, at halftime a naked flame got too close to the quick light bag and boom FIRE!!!! I only managed the first 10 mins of the second half and then i found watching fire more fun. So after a big helping of BBQ goodness and some studel, it was cigar time. I had planed to go for something that matched the game…..so after deciding not to smoke a Hamlet, i thought stuff it and grabbed a Arturo Fuente – Petit Corona.

Rolled in : Dominican Republic
Wrapper :  Cameroon
Binder : Dominican Republic
Filler : Dominican Republic
Size : 5″ x 38

I am a huge fan of Fuente cigars, i love the rich creamy flavours. The petit corona is not a little rough looking, looked and felt a lot like the little Cuabanitos. I normally smoke the Don Carlos 4′s but seeing as there a little harder to get now. After cutting the pre light draw had the flavours i was expecting. With a single match i was up and smoking sat in the sun with a pint of ice water. The smoke was a little dry but creamy with a tasty woody edge. Some subtle hints of pepper hid away at the very fringes of the smoke. The cigar smoked fine, large plumes of Rich smoke, leaving a rigid firm ash.

As i entered the middle section, the cigar really cooled down and the burn was bang on. Still a very a creamy & woody smoke with a bitter edge to the taste. This is why i love the Fuente cigars, smooth and creamy with plenty of flavour. As i entered the final third the woody flavours really came through with a rich cedar smoke. Hints of coffee and spice could be detected in the final run of this cigar. The cigar was finished with a long earthy taste.

All in all i have found my replacement for the Don Carlos No 4. Very similar smoke, but a smidge smaller. I really love the earthy, woody flavours and the hints of spice. The cigar remained middle of the road, never really becoming to rich and never being bland and flat. A great cigar for experienced smokers and novices alike.
