Kendal – Mixed Plum (Shag)

Contains : Gold and Fire Cured Virginia
Cased/Top : None
Cut : Shag
Now in the shop most people don’t put shag tobacco in pipes, say no more…..So when Pete offered me some, I couldn’t refuse. I use a lot of the mixed aromatic(Turkish Delight, perfume flavour) in my rolling tobacco mixtures. It burns easily the fluffy shag cut makes it ideal for both pipe and rolling. The tobacco has a rich plum aroma and isn’t too damp. It packed easily and lighting was a doddle.
The mixture of Virginias burnt easily with its sweet tobacco flavours, all finished off with a subtle but tasty plum. The first half the bowl was samey but this wasn’t a problem. The tobacco did bite you supped a little to vicious, but the added gold Virginia kept it burning easily.
The second half saw the smoke come a little more bitter and a smidge warmer. The plum could still be tasted but slightly drowned out by the more bitter hot Virginia. Still remained a pleasant smoke till the very last draw.
For something I normally smoke in roll ups and handmade cigarettes, the Mixed shag is just as good in a pipe. The darker Virginia keeps the smoke cool, while the Plum flavour really comes through. The fluffy shag cut allowed for and easy smoke and filling, even if it was a little short lived. The sweetness of the gold Virginia, helped carry the plum beautifully. All this for less than the cost of most rolling/pipe tobaccos. A great tobacco for all of those who enjoyed flavoured tobaccos without the Burley or Cavendish. For Rolling & Tubing, this is a great alternative to Cherry and/or Vanilla.
