I brought this from a customer back in the summer. He had picked it up in Germany and didn’t really like. So I got a 48gram tin for £5, I tried it in the summer and I really didn’t enjoy too much. Although I have noticed I don’t enjoy Latakia as much in summer as do in winter. So when I cracked the tin open again in November I was shocked to discover it hadn’t dried out at all. The musky, smoky aroma is out this world in the damp and cold winter evenings.
The tobacco packs easily and lights with a match or two, even when its this damp. Leaving the tobacco to dry in the pipe for a few hours, makes lighting easier too. As soon as you do get a bowl going you are greeted with Latakia both in aroma and flavour. While not being too strong with flavours, thanks too the generous helpings of smooth and creamy Cavendish. The burley and Virginias give the blend a sweet side, any English/Scotch blend smoker would enjoy.
The tobacco does get a little bitter towards the end. It packs enough Nicotine to keep me happy for a while after 5-10 mins smoking. Goes out easily too, ideal for getting on the bus. Definitely one of my favorite light latakia blends. Went down well with those at the pipe club, who tried it.
I got a tin of this yesterday and am on my 3rd bowl so this ‘immediate’ response will be tempered later when I get more experience of the different flavours in there – but I like it, sweet and spicey at thge same time. There seems to be some casing there, the paper in the tin was heavily stained and call me odd, but the first thing that came to my mind when opening and sniffing was plum – Germaines Plum Cake in fact, although nowhere near as strong, but to me at least it had that old slightly musty (in a good way) plum like aroma to it. Definately pleased with it so far!
