Peterson – Irish Whiskey

Contains : Virginia, Kentucky & Burley
Cased/Top : Irish Whiskey
Pipe : Parker Bruyere 01
For my second smoke of the pipe club, I dug into the Irish Whiskey. I have been tempted with this one in the past, but since I have gone off the Aromatics a little this winter I was a little unsure. When I split the packs before hand, I failed to detect the whiskey in the tin. The blend looked like a broken flake, thick strands of dark with a few highlights (im guessing the Burley?) So armed with my first ever pipe the Parker – Bruyere 01, I packed her up and was ready to rock.
It lit very easily and boom I was in business. The initial draws were cool and smooth, couldn’t really taste the Whiskey at all. I could taste the Kentucky in the blend, a rich and nutty experience. As the first half progressed it became almost cigar like, but always having a hint of sweetness from the Burley. Im not sure if the whiskey casing helped with the sweetness, as there wasn’t really any sign of it.
The second half saw the tobacco kick it up at notice. More nicotine or should I say, built up enough for me to really take note. This increase in strength brought a little tongue bite and saw the flavours grow. The sweetness increased a little more than the nutty dark tobacco. As I got towards the end, she became a little bitter and hot.
Im unsure on this blend, I really could not pick out the whiskey. Seemed much more like, a straight medium too full bodied mixture. Its not as strong as the Dunhill – Royal Yacht at first, but once its going its up there. The nuttiness from the Kentucky made it interesting enough to keep me entertained. Not a bad smoke, if you like them strong-ish with only a hint of sweetness this is a must. I do feel like a big bowl would really do this justice. And of course in flake would be nice, heck even thicker cut.
