A Turrent “6 Generations” Gran petit Robusto

Filed under Cigar Reviews {no comments}

I have long wanted to try one of these, I just never seem to remember to smoke it. After having a lazy day and a big pork dinner, I figured it was time. Luckily this cigar didn’t suffer to badly in my Humidor failure, at the end of last year. Mexican cigars sell like square wheels in the UK, Its not Cuban! Which is a big shame, Nicaraguan and Dominican do sell, with some persuasion. So these cigars are hard to sell, to even the most experimental smoker. Which is a shame, people miss so many great cigars. I too am guilty of this.

Rolled in : Mexico
Wrapper : Mexican
Binder : Mexican
Filler : Mexican
Size: 4 1/4 ″ x 54

The cigar looks divine, black wrapper. A few thin veins, but mainly a sleak textured wrapper. Not oily, a little course like a Cameroon wrapper. Very little aroma from the cigar, faint earthy hints with just a little dark tobacco. The cut was easy, good uniform packing. The light took a few turns, such  a lot of dark thick leaves. Once it was going, all that menacing appearance tuned soft. Sweet and cool smoke, packed with creamy leather flavours. Beans played a large roll in the aftertaste, coffee and cocoa mainly. I did get the impression the cigar could have more waiting, like a coiled spring. Waiting to throw its self head first at me, but for now it didn’t. A few tangy hints of herbs really brought the first third to close.

The pent up onslaught of flavours, I was hoping for didn’t arrive. Nothing like waiting for the last bus of the night and that not turning up. More like waiting for the bus and a friend comes along and offers a lift. The flavours seemed to die down a little, more civilised and less in your face (or taste). A core of creamy smoke with cedar, coffee, and a little leather. All still being medium bodied, could do with being a little stronger. The ash seemed to be made of concrete, it stuck there until 2/3 through. The final third saw the cigar develop again. A sweeter smoke but less creamy and it did seem a little hotter. The (coffee/coco) Beanie flavours still seemed to dance at the forefront, while the earthy, leathery & herby flavours carried the final third through. A great smoke, I kept it going until I could hold it any more.

Why did I leave it so long to try, what a cigar. For a slightly intimidating looking cigars, its delicate and subtle flavours couldn’t be further apart. The flavours are great, I did feel it lacked something in the later parts. The smoke was cool and creamy, I didn’t find my self needing much to drink with this one. Now I had planned on delisting in the shop, but now Im not sure.
