Pinning down Cavendish – Summary
Filed under Pipe Tobacco Reviews, Styles of Tobacco, Videos {no comments}The summary of this long series of videos. Only comparing the 3 Dark Cavendish’s, the Sail will come later
American Cavendish Light and sweet, has some of its subtle tastes. Its creamy and smooth, makes a great base for aromatics. Needs some added flavour, to replace those lost in the steam sweating process.
DVC (Dark Virginia Cavendish) A mixture of the 2 Black Cavendish’s as far as the flavours go. Its very sweet, but has a lot of the dark Virginia flavours to it. Isn’t used much at all, sits as one on its own. Seems to use aspects of English, Dutch & American methods. As a result the tobacco seems to have the best of both world, smooth and light smoke with sweet and aromatic flavours.
English Black Cavendish This is nothing like its American cousin. The sweetness is there, but as important (to its flavour), as the tobacco taste is in the American Black Cavendish. Packed full of smoked and spicy tobacco flavours. On its own it is 75% there to make a good smoke, needs a little something. Some spice tobacco for example, this is why it finds its self in Scotch Cut Cake Mixtures.
Dutch Golden Cavendish (Sail Natural) Will review & compare later
