7 Seas – Cherry (First Impressions)
Filed under Pipe Tobacco Reviews, Product News {no comments}It was supposed to be released at the AITS trade show this weekend, but Gawith are letting us have it early. So when it arrived this morning i had to make a start on it.
From the pouch the aroma is very sweet and of natural cherry. I dont find it as strong smelling as the Borkum Riff wiht cherry though. The blend is mainly golden Burley & Virginias with a small helping of Black Cavendish. Looks like she will be a typical European Aromatic, hot if you go at her to quickly.
Blended in : Denmark
Contains : Virginia, Burley & Black Cavendish
Cased/Top : Cherry
Pipe : Peterson Standard System 303 (Smooth)
Now MacBaren class this is an “easy to fill” tobacco and they are not wrong with that one. The loose, fluffy shag cut is easy to work with and even easier to light. With only the first charring light i got this one going, people standing round me commented, instantly how nice it smelt. Was shocked i didnt need to tamp or relight.
Those first few draws did come across as being a little warm, but once i got it thoroughly going she smoked very smooth and cool. The smoke is very sweet and aromatic, which you would expect! The cherry is a very natural flavour, much like the pouch aroma. I did detect some cream and hints of Strawberry or other berry tones. It reminds me a little of the Peterson 2011 Special Reserve, the blend seems very close too. The tobacco flavours are in the mix, but not to prominent. It smokes rather light aswell, which is my main complaint about aromatics.
I will have to say i only smoked half a bowl, as i dont have time to really give it a go. So i will be back later on this evening to give it thorougher go.
