Awoken By Moonlight Interview

Ok we'll be honest about this. We did go and interview this band in person, but we had some technical problems and ended up with no recording. So we e-mailed the band the questions and they rather geniusly recorded there own interview and transcribed it for us.

CHEERS CHAPS!

(SP) How long have you guys been together and what changes has there been to the band?

Matt – Firstly, I'd like to say Jase has only been with us for about two weeks.

Jase – Hi. Haha.

Matt – So, yeah originally about two years ago Awoken By moonlight was a four peice, all a group of friends from the Becket School, and we were only like 15 and messing about with guitars and shit.

We didn't even have any of our own songs till Ben joined. You know back in the day, covering Finch songs. Only me and ben will remember our first gig now.

Ben – Christ…in the church social centre?

Andy – I've seen pictures, bringing the mosh to the church. (laughter)

Ben – What a fucking travesty man. We got better though.

Matt – Haha, eventually

Ben – I think it all properly started going right when about March of this year when my little brother came up and said "My mate needs a singer".

I turned up at the house we were practising at, and I don't think you even heard me sing when you said you'd have me.

Andy – It's a shame they didn't shop around some more, eh?

Ben – You're a funny man.

(Random Insults)

Jase – By the way the band has totally changed since back in the school days. Matt you're the only original member right?

Matt – Well Yeah, But all our music is basically written by the people in the band now.

Jase – Bar me of course. Yeah, I took over from Luca a few weeks ago, Still gotta learn the songs before we get back on the gigs.

(SP) – How would you describe your sound and what influences you?

Nicholas – I've always been a bit wary of this question, Usually we'd ask Ben to describe us, But he's frantically giving me the finger sooo…haha

Ben – Yeah whenever I open my mouth on the topic Matt tells me off, haha!

Matt – Say it anyway dude…

Ben – Well, we all have our different influences, quite diverse tastes in rock. Nick and me will always want to drag good hard screamo into it somewhere

With some wierd-ass offbeat timings, and matt nudges his Metal in.

But I will always like to think we hava a similar sound to Modern post-hardcore (Mat screams "urrrrgh!"), that shit,

You know Some harsh screamin to go with the chilled vocals. Which is basically what we started out to do in the first place.

But i'm not a fan of that question,

cause If we start saying we sound like other people then we're not really doing our own thing, which would be kinda boring.

Nicholas – Yeah, the is a horrible question, when you start saying you sound like other bands you start to become rather generic.

But I do know what influences us…I mean, it's however we're feeling at the time. I mean, being pissed off will make you write some hard riff.

Ben – I Bet you've gone through a skin or two in a bad mood Jase?

Jase – My tom was fucked man and I've gone through two snares.

Ben – You're too hardcore Jase.

Nicholas – Actually, you know what? Ben, my riffs are influenced by cult foreign movies and gin, they're just fucked up.

Ben – I just love how you're so goddamn elite dude.

(SP) – Any decent gigs coming up?

Andy – Oh, theres a tiny chance we could be supporting fuckin' Bring Me The Horzon At J7.

Ben – Mmm, 3rd November if anyones interested?

Matt – And Bloodbath's comin' up. It's going to be massive, A friend of ours is organising it, Shes got about 20 bands Including

Devil Sold His Soul And Penknife to do an all-dayer in the main hall in Rock city, and we're on the lineup for that.

Nicholas – Will be nice to play a stage where we can actualy run around a bit.

Matt – And finally you might stop stepping on my lead Bitch.

Ben – You're just jelous of my big feet, twinkletoes.

Matt – Damn your canoe shoes!

(SP) – Tell us about the new E.P, where did you record it? what can people expect on it? how much is it? and where from?

Andy – Recorded at 'Stuckonaname' in Radford, and we recently had 500 of them professionally printed. Funded by our bank of course, Ben (laughter)

Ben – Don't remind me, the fuckin' overdraft killed me.

Andy – It's for sale in Selectadisc, and off the myspace only Four quid.

Ben – Aha, you can actually see a video of us recording it at 'Stuckonaname.co.uk'.

Nicholas – Don't tell everyone, We look like dicks on that.

Jase – I can tell you the E.P. is actually fucking amazing, from an outsider point of view I mean. I've had to listen to it to learn the beats and I love it.

Matt – Safe, our own band likes our music, we're going up.

(SP) – Tell us about the funniest gig you've played or the worst venue!?

Nicholas – Shit, guys, remember that Leiscter gig at the Attik?

Ben – Oh yeah, haha…we we're asked to play in Leicester, four hours before the show started, bearing in mind it takes about an hour to drive there.

Matt – Ben called me and was like "We got a gig in leicester in three hours"

Ben – Fucking crazy, I was still at work when They asked us!

Nicholas – Don't forget about Mike.

Matt – Yeah, our bassist called us two hours before we had to go on to say he was leaving the band.

Nicholas – What a total shambles. Oh and the old Angel when the power cut out.

Ben – I'm still convinced someone did that on purpose.

Matt – Probably your feet.

(Laughter)

(SP) – What are Awoken by Moonlight looking to do over the next year and where do you hope this takes you?

Ben – I think we have one target at the moment. We'd absolutely love to play download, I mean, even if it's only out in the camping fields somewhere.

Ben – Yeah, so in a years time we'd like to be on a big stage infront of lots of fans, who doesn't?

Matt – What are you on about, we just wanna get laid.

Ben – True.

(SP) – Shout outs, thank yous and big some people up!?

Andy – Yeah, thanks to Ian and Phil At Stuck on a name for doing our recording so cheap.

Ben – Big up Miss Squires for letting us play with penknife…the one person we know that can actually organise shit haha.

Jase – I'd like to thank God, the academy…yeah I'll shut up now.

Nicholas – Minus Sam, boys, from leicester! Check them out.

Ben – Oh yeah, find us at myspace.com/awokenbymoonlight, and buy a CD!

Andy – Please! Oh! And, UpFront Promotions team.

Nicholas – And the fans of course, for putting up with us and coming to our shows.

Ben – We have fans?

Jase – Yep.

Ben – Safe! Thanks to all you guys! We ain't shit without the kids jumping in the venues!

Jase – Thanks to Yes My Ninjas for making my ears and as bleed.

Matt – And Drum Tobacco.

Ben – And Jack Daniels.

Andy – Jägermeister!

Nicholas – Gordons Gin man!

Jase – Turn it off dude.
