Tonight, the gates of hell are fit to fly open thanks to the array of Nottingham’s finest underground metals act set to grace the illustrious stage of acclaimed live music venue, “The Old Angel”.
Devourer
Extreme metal outfit, Devourer, maintain The Angels proud reputation for playing host to an incalculable number of talented local artists. Devourers music evokes a touch of the chaotic genius present in the work of death metal masters, Cannibal Corpse. The guitarists fingers effortlessly wrap themselves around the killer riffing patterns of Two Faced, while Infest delivers a bludgeoning with its impossibly fast, percussion-driven intro.
WIthout Eyes
Tapping a more harmonious vein, progressive metal outfit, “Without Eyes” follow with a spirited performance. Virtually swallowing the microphone, the lead vocalist howls like a man possessed whilst the clean vocals enhance the melodic facets of their music. However, most worthy of note is the quaking power and expertise of the bass guitar, which is vaguely reminiscent of early Korn (before, of course John Davis threw out his horror memorabilia and gained family commitments).
Nekrosis
Fuelled by a cocktail of adrenalin, infectious rage and a few swigs of beer snatched between songs, thrash ambassadors, Nekrosis, take the stage by storm. “Seas of Blood” is a raging speed fest punctuated by moments of slow-burning aggression erupting towards a violent, hate-filled climax.
Hordes Of Satan
“Hordes of Satan” finally take their place within the dimly lit room. Theirs is an unforgiving, atmospheric assault of unholy doom metal played with high-volume, hypnotising intensity. The grinding depth of the bass evokes an intriguing aura of death equivalent to the sight of a grisly mass murder scene. The blood-curdling death grunts of “Joseph” would indeed make the perfect horror soundtrack. Their unique brand of doom metal is as intoxicatingly potent as a triple shot of absinthe on a bitter winter’s night.
