Gig Reviews

Lazy Cunts + Liam Bailey and the Soul Parade + The King Blues

November 24, 2006

Lazy Cunts

Well, it is Saggy Pants 50th gig in just over 14 months and so we are in the mood to celebrate with a night of passionate and heart-felt reggae, soul, folk and ska! Kicking off were two guys who have been seen several times over the last year at Saggy Pants nights, Jody (Weeble, Jimmy the Squirrel and Yoghurt Bombers) and Jimmy the Squirrel's lead rodent Liam. Tonight the boys chilled it out for a special and memorable set of acoustic ska, playing songs from all their bands sets as well as some new material to open the night up brilliantly!

Liam Bailey and The Soul Parade

Second on is former Bosco frontman, Liam Bailey, with new project, The Soul Parade. The experience and quality is blatant with members of Team Hughes, Foncheros and 1st Blood making up the numbers and with Liam's powerful and soulful voice, this is also a stunning performance. The Soul Parade moves from traditional reggae that Bob himself would be proud of to funky soulful rock of the Lenny Kravitz mould. Next time these guys play go check it out!

The King Blues

So to finish our 50th gig we have invited a band up from London who have been getting all sorts of great reviews and it is obvious we weren't the only ones digging The King Blues, as the place is full to bursting by the time they play. Political awareness is high on the agenda but with upbeat, funky ska and reggae songs which are all played with the use of acoustic guitars, ukulele, acoustic bass, bongos and great vocal harmonies, the crowd loved it as did we. We salute all the bands on this bill and every band who has played a Saggy Pants night plus all the fans who have come to support them as it is the money we earn from gigs like this that keep this magazine going, so we look forward to gig number 100…..can we get there in 6 more months???
