Callous got the ball rolling, but it's a shame that their usual crunchy riffs were lost in surplus levels of distortion. Theirs was a steady set, with the exception of a brand new one, "We've F**ked up" were the words of the front man, as the song grinded to a halt half way through. But they continued the remaining songs with dignity. The drummer was the most energetic and certainly did his job to get the others back on track. They deserved the massive cheer they got at the end. If you want to see a band that makes your head bop steadily up and down uncontrollably check Callous out
El Cielo were next on the scene, the first thing that struck me about them was, irregular and complex drum beats, that head boppingthing, you can forget it with this band, unless you know the songs as well as them. Another thing that struck me was the insanely talented 'why isn't he further than The Old Angel?' guitarist. He somehow was able to take the roles of lead and rhythm guitar and mash them into one, and not even break a sweat. The vocalist was not done justice by the 'shoddy' sound but from what I could tell he had a voice that was both versatile and reliable. A down side to this band was that it was difficult to determine one song from another, but one has stuck with me since, 'Deity' I think they called it, If you ever get the chance to see them, at least go for that song
The only band with three instead of four members of the evening, Moth headlined, and a good job they did too, it was easy to listen to stuff without being easy listening, and if that doesn't make sense to you, then check them out, and you'll understand what I mean. Another steady set, the bassist was very talented and charismatic, the drummer kept himself to himself. It was a tight and well practised band, I didn't notice any mistake, although they claim to have made them. Their music style is one that suits many, definitely a good set to perform live.
