MOTH – SILENT ALARM

Moth’s Silent Alarm EP kicks off with Anodyne, A track that starts off with some punchy bass and a vocal line that at it’s peak get very aggressive before kicking into a heavy chorus and slowly settling back into that punchy bass line only this time followed with some nice use of the Guitar. This is a very enjoyable track, it did take me a few listens to get into this properly but hey! If I decided after just one listen then I wouldn’t be doing my job right now would I? On a serious note this is great song and Moth certainly do know how to write good songs. After the bridge on this song the song seems to build-up towards a heavy, hard hitting climax which leads into Bold Incision.

Bold Incision is a raw, powerful song which starts off pretty slow which on the first listen gave me the impression that it would set the tone for the rest of the song. However it is very deceiving in that respect as it soon kicks into a heavy, pounding, aggressive track that gets your foot/head going when played live. I like this song a lot as it is just my sort of thing. Catchy, heavy and shows off the talent of this band. It doesn’t change much at all but you can forgive them for that as it isn’t a boring song and a during the bridge is where the biggest change occurs when we have a drum solo and a little light guitar before Moth try to take out your eardrums by capping it off with a heavy finale finally reverting back to the intro.

Would it Matter ? Starts off with some cool Guitar work before settling into a melodic verse. In my opinion this is where the frontman shows off his vocal work with an excellent song, which is very catchy and is very enjoyable. This is the best song on this cd in my opinion because it truly shows off Moth’s skill of song writing. When the song settles back into its verse there are different overdubs of guitar thrown in which is a nice touch as it shows that Moth went about this Ep in a professional way instead of just going in and recording. This song sees an excellent Guitar solo, nothing too technical but good enough to be appreciated properly.

Bold Incision (dNa Remix). This song as the title suggests is just a remix of the song Bold Incision, and it has a very Prodigy-like vibe to it. I’m not as keen on the remix as I am the original but it is a very good take on the song. At just over 6 minutes long I think this is too long for this song but it is different as not many local bands (that I know of) put remixes on their ep’s. This work very well in conjunction with the original and the person who has remixed it has learnt their craft well, but it doesn’t grab me as much as the others do.

Moth’s Silent Alarm EP is in my opinion one of the best out there. I’ve heard quite a few now! It’s worth getting to see how this stacks up to how they sound live. It is also worth buying just to read the thank you’s on the inlay as Nick Thanks Captain Jack Sparrow (of Pirates of the Carribean) but not god!! This ep is for sale in Selectadisc so go buy it!.

Overall (4.5 / 5)
