My first experience of ‘The Dirty Backbeats’ is 3 track demo ‘The Bop’ which comes in at just under 9 minutes. Immediately you’re transported to a world of distinctive vocals with a hint of Jack white, a gypsy-feel splash of Gogol Bordello and the melodic movements of the Coral. The first song has a Dresden dolls feel of theatrical development half way through. In contrast to the rest of the song with lyrics such as’ I’ve been loving you for far too long’ the tone changes for a few seconds to a more upbeat feel with the lyrics ‘maybe I could take you home for tea’. There’s definitely a sense of dualism with this band. The second song short and sweet and just less than 2 minutes is that bit faster. The lyrics are about him not being the kind of guy we’d wanna meet but they’re certainly the kinda band you’ll wanna see. It makes you wanna get up and do a stupid dance to the rhythmic drum beat that moves the song well and suits the rest of the instrumentation. The last song starts off morbid-funeral style with static movement and pauses but the vocals convey a lot of emotion. At points the texture increases showing us the instruments really do work well together. From first listen I was impressed with the refreshing diversity and I think you will be too
