August 19, 2006 @ Junktion 7
Well it is day 2 of Trashstock 2006, last night the amazing Drugdealer Cheerleader, Devilishly Presley and local legends Patchwork Grace rocked the stage and helped give most of Junktion 7 a nice littel hangover, tonight we are here to witness the second half of this year’s event!
Headrush
Headrush start the night off with a burst of energy and power, the riffs and big and catchy and with tight booming bass lines and crashing drums they run through an impressive set. The vocalist is really impressive with a high screech and powerful lungs he mixes Freddie Mercury with Axel Rose and has the showmanship to boot. As the band continue their set they show off an army of punchy glam rock n roll sing alongs and by the end the crowd are singing, clapping and dancing along. I loved the song Saviour, the one slower song of the set (I felt this diverssity was nice and could be used more often) but as Headrush stamped through the set , they got the night off to a great start.
Zen Motel
Next to carry on the party were Zen Motel, a punkier offering with big riffs, big make up and big attitude! The guitars were fast and furious and with punchy hooks they were full of energy. The vocals were good with some catchy hooks and some nice break downs. A nice mix of 70’s punk, 80’s metal and 90’s grunge but I did feel some songs sounded a little similar.
Mavern
So as the dirty, punky looking Zen Motel leave the stage, I am surprised to see what looks almost like a girl band take the stage but these are no Atomic Kitten! Mavern kick into their dirty and thrashy punk with heart and balls and show us what true girl power is! The guitarist is possibly the best female guitarist I have ever seen with some awesome breaks and with the other guitarist and bassist, they create some beefy punk riffs. The drummer is very tight and holds the band together brilliantly and these young ladies show us all what ballsy pnk should be! The vocalist gets drowned out at times but she has a good voice and her vocal patterns are interesting, as she spits out her words in a fast and furious manner. Mavern were really impressive and with both youth and beauty in their favour, as well as the fact they are musically very tight and original, I would say these northern girls could go far!
Disarm
So to follow that we have Disarm and these guys keep the night moving with again a brillaint performance. Mixing fast rock n roll and punk, Disarm charge head first through their set and get the crowd going mental with their punchy, tight and booming glam punk. The hooks and riffs are really catchy and by kicking in and out and building up and down they have masses of dynamic and power. The dirty bass lines and beefy guitar riffs carry the songs whilst the enegmatic frontman holds your attention and the drummer keeps it really, really tight with his powerful beats. Disarm were a real highlight of the evening with a brilliant set of tight, powerful and well written songs that summed the night up with their attitude and charisma.
The High Society
So to finish off what had already been a great show of rock n roll we have The High Society including former members of King Adora. They start off with a slower tempo to many of the other acts and with a dirty, trashy sound that is covered in beer and attitude. The band are really tight and with some great guitar soloing and a great voice on the frontman, The High Society are worthy of their headlining slot! They have some good dynamic with heavy and soft mixing together and some nice changes. The frontman looks cool as fuck in his sunglasses and they all look the part moving well on stage. As the set progresses they kick in with the power and attitude and finish the night in style, a great night for drinking, swearing, dancing and not giveing a fuck! We salute you Riot for a successful Trashstock 2006!
