3GunPete + Weeble + Phinius Gage + Streetlight Manifesto

April 20, 2005

3 Gun Pete: Kicked off with crotch grabbing punk-emo, kind of a less catchy Hundred Reasons with a feel of that Americana punk ala Alkaline Trio. It was their first show with 5th member Rob, as an added guitarist. By the end of their onslaught, the audience were defiantly impressed but still to sober to start expressing it.

Weeble: Took up the whole stage plus more with a ridiculously tight set for a 9-piece band. This is proper ska, with more instruments than members, including a 4 man strong brass section and 2 percussionists. The whole set was a barrage of skank-worthy noise, with a genius mixture of frantic and slow jam ska. They managed to break the inhibition barrier and by the end the audience were blow away and very sweaty.

Phinius Gage: Firmly grasped the attention of anyone in the vicinity, as brain blasting angry punk rock took the reigns. They had a real message to get across, the brilliant and very effective infrequency of lyrics made sure it did. They rang with a feel of some old Offspring stuff, but with the energy and subtlety of It was a truly psyched performance, with lots of “Whooaa’s” (which is always good!). After this the crowd was pretty damn hyped.

Streetlight Manifesto: assumed the stage to a swelling audience, and the fact that they featured ex-members of the mighty Catch 22, guaranteed a warm welcome and some serious ska-ability.The music instantly slapped a stupid grin on your face that they refused to let slip throughout the whole set, even the more chilled out sections were still ludicrously happy. They treated us to a cover of the much loved Keasbey Nights, during which I’m pretty sure even the stiffs at the back were yomping their bollocks off. They had the audience hanging on ever blast.
