Without Eyes – Bethea

Mizaru opens this 3 track E.P with heavy and dark guitar riffage that chugs along slowly and as the dark grunts hit home, suddenly the riff changes and the vocals hit into a much softer grunge feel.rnSome awesome double bass pedal work and fast and dynamic changes from the guitar keep this song moving.rnThe vocalist also changes both the style and speed of his vocal patterns to make this song build up well. I can certainly see the Korn comparison with screeching riffs and powerful vocal noises! rn Without Eyes however, have a much more melodic edge that is more inclined to their early 90's grunge (Soundgarden or Stone Temple Pilots). rnThis is a good and diverse opening track with catchy hooks, interesting changes and certainly plenty of punch and power.rnSo to Bethea, the second title track on this E.P. The vocals are a lot softer on this track, with a slower tempo and building up to the chorus. Bands such as Jane's Addiction come to mind with the way this song moves the soft verses build into a heavy and powerful chorus, sounding just a little Creed. The singer uses his voice so well to give the song more depth and a powerful melody. This track once again shows this band have imagination.rnThe only thing about this song was that it was 8 minutes long and with only and it got a little repetitive in the middle. rnFinal song, Clockwork, goes back to Without Eyes heavier side. The fast verse reminds me of a more interesting Deftones feel. Yet the chorus slows down with screaming guitars and softer more melodic vocals, I really like the time changes in this song and the mix of heavy rock influences. This song leaves the E.P in a hot sweat of heavy rock energy!rnOverall I think Without Eyes have a powerful and interesting sound, mixing styles quite well Having seen this band live on several occasions I now know that the melodies and dynamic don't come across as well on stage. This E.P is certainly worth a listen.rn
