Band Bio

Alice Rock (Bio)

My name is Alice Rock (this is actually my real name!) and I write, record and perform what I would describe as poppy punk with a slightly gothy edge. I am a multi-instrumentalist able to play the piano, keyboard, guitar, bass, drums and sing. I have performed in bands playing various things since I was 15 (I am currently 25) but until beginning my current project I had never been the main singer/song writer/front man (or woman even!). I decided to try and develop myself as a solo artist about eight months ago when a sudden change in my life gave me the inspiration to write songs (they lyrics kinda give it all away). I didn’t really take it seriously at first, but was overwhelmed by the response I was given when performing a few of my songs acoustically at several open mike nights in Nottingham. Due to this I decided to make full recordings of my favorite songs, and try to get somewhere! I am currently recording my debut album ‘Finding Wonderland’. All the songs I have recorded (so far!) are downloadable from my website. All have a full band sound (bass, drums, guitars, keyboards, vocals, percussion etc) and were recorded by myself alone in my bedroom using my PC and a pretty limiting selection of musical equipment. Doing all this on my own has driven me insane at times, but judging from the positive reaction I have had, it has definitely been worth it!

I am currently trying to play live as regularly as I can around the East Midlands, and also trying to promote my CD. Obviously, being a solo artist limits me rather where playing live is concerned, as I do not have a band to back me. I have overcome this by developing what I feel is a unique catchy/rhythmical/upbeat guitar style that accurately represents my musical style. People are generally surprised when I start playing; I think this is because there aren’t many female solo performers about that sing upbeat ballsy (often slightly bitchy!) poppy punk. I am very passionate about my music, it drives me mad but I love it – I like to think this comes across when I perform.
