Alice Rock are not, as I had assumed, a fantasy metal band with a love of Lewis rnCarroll, they, well, she, is a punky girl called Alice, who Rocks. Lying somewhere rnbetween Kenickie and X-Ray Spex on the girls in rock scale with the upbeat pop of rnLauren Laverne and the slightly grating voice of Polystyrene of the Spex, Alice rnbashes her way through six great songs. rnAs well as writing all of the songs herself, including all of the music, Alice even rnsometimes performs alone “I manage to keep people entertained with lots of silly rnscreaming and amusing make-up and clothes”. Image Avril Lavigne with a rnhangover, minus a stylist, after a trip to Void. rnThe lyrics are well written and humorous, in Dot Com Women Alice sings “I’m rnseventeen, I’m beautiful, but my Dad’s like Adolf Hitler”. I’m completely won over, rnshe’s talented and funny, what more could you ask. Plus the fact she sounds and rnlooks genuine, I can believe she dresses the same on or off stage and she’s not rntrying to be a Avril Lavigne/Kelly Clarkson guitar playing clone, thank God or I’d rnhave to put her on my Celebrity Hit List.rn
