Alice Rock Interview

Who is(are) Alice Rock?

We are a two piece poppy punk band from Nottingham consisting of guitar/vocals (ALICE) and drums (TABBY). We have been playing together as a two piece since July 2006, before this Alice Rock was a punky acoustic act consisting only of Alice and her guitar.

We are both very driven and passionate about what we do ~ we absolutely love it! Our music is upbeat, playful and fun… it is very in your face, we even wear matching jumpers (wow!), We have played at numerous venues in Nottingham, Leicester and Derby and also at some cool festivals including TreeFest, Parkhall Live and the 'Run to the Hills' VW festival.

The album has been recorded over the past year and is finally being released on 30th November. A few selected tracks and promo clips are already available on our websites, we also even have a music video for the song Kissing in a Campervan (we got a few strange looks filming this!).

Tell us about the new album

Our album goes by the name of 'Finding Wonderland' ~ a conceptual album using twelve songs to weave the tale of a unique (bizarre!) personal story. Whilst remaining upbeat and humorous the lyrics deal with emotional issues and can be dark in places…. but at the same time doesn't take itself too seriously.

The sound of the album combines the cheeky pop/punk of the B52's with the gothic mystique of the Cure and the catchyness of the Beatles (sorry, bit of a pretentious mouthful there) ~ we love it and think we have created something really original! It is going to be really interesting to see what people think when they hear it.

Is there going to be any intensive touring to follow the album up?

Yes, we are planning a tour for early 2007 ~ dates; venues etc will be appearing on our websites shortly. Prior to this we have few local gigs following the release of the album including The Vic Inn (Derby) 23rd Nov, The Orange Tree (Nottingham) Dec 2nd and The Maze (Nottingham) Dec 9th. Copies of the album will be available at these.

What do you think of the Local scene. Any bands or venues you would recommend checking out or just streaing clear of??

You can shove 'The Seven Stars' in Hucknall up your ass… but hey moving on to more positive things than that particular doss hole, yes we like the local scene. We have enjoyed fantastic gigs at places such as The Malt Cross (Enjoy the Ride) and Junktion 7 (RIOT Promotions) and also met countless wicked bands; we cannot mention any in particular as to miss any out would just be wrong. There have been some not so wicked bands harboring ridiculously large egos; such bands are always good for a laugh (at!).

Any shout outs??

Listen to 'Punky Radio' (punkyradio.com)!!! Punky is a podcast based just outside Nottingham. The show is hilarious and promotes alternative music including unsigned bands to a global audience and is doing really well. We've had a great response from listeners due to Punky ~ "Thanks Punky!" !!

Oh… and nooooooooo we don't want a bass player (before you ask!)
