August 25, 2005
Thursday the 25th of August will be a night I’ll remember for some time to come, even with my bad memory. It had been months since I’d seen Patchwork Grace. So venturing off to the Gallows, Ilkeston, I decided to make amends. Walking in I instantly sensed the atmosphere… this was a rock pub. After half an hour of listening to the DJ play various tracks from Pantera’s Cowboys From Hell to Auidoslaves Cochise the music died down, the lights dimmed and there stood Patchwork Grace. As they leaped into action, it felt like I’d never missed a gig, never missed a beat. With Taz’s melodic vocals, Joey and Crispin’s finger blistering bass and guitar riffs accompanied by dep. drummer Scot, Patchwork Grace pretty much tore the Gallows Inn down. Continuing their set with catchy songs like Zebra and A Girl Called Flower, with their volatile stage movements Patchwork Grace seemed more than happy playing in front of the huge crowd, I could feel the energy like a lightning storm. Sadly the adrenalin surge of music and movement couldn’t last all night and the set hurtled to a climax. Taz left, casually walking through the crowd leaving the boys standing on either side of the stage, Joey and Crispin stood holding out their guitars, then, suddenly threw them at each other leaving them whining with feedback on the floor for a good half minute. Then Joey returned to kill the amps and release the tension, as the stage went silent and the applause began. The DJ resumed his tracks and lights came on, In closing I can’t recommend going to see Patchwork Grace enough. They’re just full of heart and know how to rock. I only hope they make it big time, they sure deserve to.
