Saggy-Pants Presents… Without Eyes + Manichae + Trippin Over Wah + Spirytus

November 18, 2005

I find myself gracing the Nottingham Boat Club’s presence with my PA at hand, ready in my attempt to make the nights acts sound rather good- although a notice catches my eye and leaves me wondering what may lay in store for me if I misbehave, as there are posters warning of the establishments “right to inject” any person they see fit. Hmmm.

No really- kids, don’t do drugs! Even free ones! Instead, spend your money on live music- it’s great. Or so it would seem the unending queue of young gig goers believed! After a disappointing turnout during Saggy Pants last visit to The Boat Club, the numbers through the door tonight was to provide relief for the organizers and for the bands. Tonight is to be a metal night, except with the pullout of one act means a last minute replacement does not fall into that genre, but it wasn’t to be the end of the world!

Without Eyes are a Korn-esque and Illuminatus like five piece from these here lands of Nottingham and most of those here tonight are into this group I have to admit I was a bit surprised, as the image everybody had didn’t fit into the music but like it they did!

Manichae are another local five piece, and have a more gothy-feel yet rock structured base to their metal-isms.

The last minute-in act tonight are Trippin Over Wah, and it would seem the young ones here tonight made the journey for this group- a funky, indie pop type stuff. Cool.

And the last band of the night was Spyritus, a five piece very heavy, intense but well made metal with the sort of frontman that makes a group stand just higher then others in the same niche. Then it was back out into the cold, ears ringing, and no sign of any injecteesÂ…. Reviewed by Leon of Gigged
